In many ecosystems, natural fires play an important role in maintaining biodiversity and occur locally during the dry season. They help rejuvenate fire-adapted forests. Fires remove old vegetation, supply nutrients to the soil via the ash and allow sunlight to reach the forest floor.

As part of the annual book picture exhibition at the Stauffacher bookshop in Bern, the theme for 2023 was tarot. I chose the Death card as the theme and had the “forest fire” as a motif idea.
