FAQ
Here you'll find quick answers about production, shipping, and my posters – leaving more time for sweet idleness.
Kaspar & his posters
I’m Kaspar Allenbach – a Bernese graphic designer and poster artist with a background as an architectural draftsman, a Bachelor in Visual Communication (Graphic Design), and many years of professional experience under my belt. When I’m not designing posters, I’m swimming in the Aare river (from 17 degrees Celsius and up), biting my way up a mountain, obsessively tracking container ships on YouTube, or taking a leisurely stroll through the city. You can find out more about me and my work on my About Me page.
My style is graphic-minimalistic with a dash of humor and melancholy. Very much in the spirit of the Japanese woodblock art Ukiyo-e, I look for beauty in the near and the everyday. I am inspired by what surrounds me: concrete and mountain air, four-legged friends with character, as well as people with their stories and longings. Design-wise, I stand firmly in the tradition of minimalistic Swiss graphic design, but I continue to write the chapter with my own personal touch.
Yes. In my online shop, you will find unmistakable Bern and Switzerland posters, as well as a selection of my postcards. If you are looking for the full range, a visit to my Postervault in Bern’s Old Town is well worth it: there are even more local souvenirs to discover there, such as stickers, fridge magnets, and exclusive postcard motifs.
I am a native of Bern and a passionate mountaineer – so it’s hardly surprising that my most popular motifs come from my homeland and the mountains: the absolute bestsellers include the Bernese posters Aare Swimming and Call It A Day, as well as the alpine classics All Swiss Peaks and Haute Route.
My posters are 100% Made in Bern – from the design till the shipping. So anyone who buys a poster from me directly supports local artwork and business. With me, there are no templates for quick mass-produced goods. I consistently focus on quality instead of quantity – and so a lot of time goes into every single poster. I tweak the design until I capture a very unique feeling that resonates with the viewer. The final motif is always just the visible tip of the iceberg.
Products & Quality
All of my F4 posters, as well as the smaller motifs with a high proportion of dark colors, are printed by my partner printing company Uldry in Hinterkappelen near Bern – a family-run business that has been printing with a strong commitment to quality since 1964, uses green electricity, and produces exclusively in Bern.
Uldry prints using a sustainable, high-quality 6-color latex digital printing process – with water-based, eco-friendly ink that is solvent-free and weather-resistant.
My A2 and A1 posters are produced via offset printing in Wallisellen.
Depending on the printing process, different types of paper are used:
F4: On satin poster paper 200g/m²
A2: On uncoated offset paper 170g/m²
A1: On uncoated offset paper 250g/m²
I offer all poster sizes, from the smallest poster format A3 to the world format ("Weltformat") F4. Here is an overview with the most important information:
A3 – The small one (29.7 x 42 cm)
As large as a double A4 sheet. Suitable for cozy niches, smaller rooms, or narrow hallways where the motif can be viewed from up close.
A2 – The small large one (42 x 59.4 cm)
A classic "small poster", as large as a double A3 sheet. This format is frequently seen in Swiss cities for wild postering. It is ideally suited for rooms that have something to say – for the kids' room, the office, or as an eye-catcher in the kitchen.
A1 – The large small one (59.4 x 84.1 cm)
A proper poster. This one isn't really that small anymore. It fits perfectly above the sofa in the living room, next to the dining table, in a practice/office space, or in a spacious entrance hall.
F4 – World format / Weltformat (89.5 x 128 cm)
The flagship for your wall design. The exact same size as the APG street billboards used in Swiss outdoor advertising. An absolute eye-catcher for really large spaces, wide lofts, or minimally furnished rooms.
No, I ship my posters without picture frames. However, there are providers with great products that I can recommend.
In my opinion, the most beautiful and simplest frames are so-called "Halbe Rahmen" (half-frames). These feature a unique mounting principle using magnetic frames. This allows the pictures to be framed effortlessly without any tools or annoying clips.
Metal Picture Frames
Wooden Picture Frames
With these frames, the formats are cut flush to the poster size. However, it can also look great to choose a larger frame to give the motif more breathing room with a passe-partout (mat board). Real glass can be used for the smaller A2 and A1 formats. For the large F4 world format, I recommend only using Plexiglas for safety reasons.
Please keep in mind: When dealing with graphic prints on paper, you are looking at a natural product, and tolerances can be +/- 5 mm depending on the size.
Since picture frames in the F4 world format are hardly available in regular retail stores, I offer my F4 posters ready-mounted.
The posters are securely mounted onto a sturdy aluminum Dibond (Alu-Dibond) panel. Two U-profiles are pre-installed on the back, making it incredibly easy for you to hang it up using just two nails or screws.
This service is handled by my partner printing company Uldry in Hinterkappelen (Bern) and is delivered directly to your home in the highest quality.
Please note: Due to their size, mounted F4 posters are only delivered within Switzerland.
